Most distributors join network marketing companies but they do not actually know how to network to expand their market. Most people are not comfortable striking up a conversation with some random person. Along with the rise of the technology that are being produced today, more and more people are becoming introverted in how they associate with others.
Majority of people are afraid to call upon different business owners and successful entrepreneurs thinking that they would never want to help other people. However, the majority of all successful people want to leave behind a legacy so they are very open to meeting and sharing their experience with others. A good way to expand your network marketing business is to network and meet at least four new people per day. However, you want to network with the high influential people who have a large market for you to meet. How might you get in contact and meet these people?
The best method I found was utilizing Linkedin to connect with different business owners. You connect with these business owners and you actually send a message or call them to meet and actually learn about their success. You may get a no once in a while but a majority would want to help and share their success. Once you schedule a one on one meeting, such as sitting down for a cup of coffee, you take this time to actually learn about the person and find something that you can help benefit that person. For my experience , I let the person know that I do personal fundraising for individuals who are in need of some additional income and then ask if he/she knows anyone who would be good to meet to gain more leads.
In this time of transition in the field of marketing, everyone is moving towards trust with what their friends and family are talking about. If you are the person that is being talked about by one influential person, then your business will grow like a wildfire.
I have recently been thinking about what I started with network marketing. I am making enough to get by but not making millions of dollars that I would have liked. However, I think the experience is one of the most beneficial aspects of what I am doing with network marketing. I became a better sales professional because network marketing opened the doors and forced me to find more creative ways to make sales such as online marketing, networking, building my own brand, and setting a niche market for those I sell to. Whether or not you believe that you will make a million dollars with network marketing, it is the experience and the family you create that makes it all worth more than a million dollars. I believe that anyone can succeed at these types of businesses and they will learn how to become better at sales for any company that may be looking to hire them.
The key to success in any business including network marketing is utilizing your warm market to share your product or business. However, what happens when you run out of people in your warm market and don’t have anyone to sell to? This would be the time that you need to go out into the cold market and make new connections to bring them into you warm market. Outside of networking groups, this can be a difficult task to meet new people. Here are a few tips to help meet new cold market contacts and break the ice.
1. Do a random act of kindness
You would be surprised how far a random act of kindness goes and who remembers. A simple act of opening the door for someone or buying someones coffee opens up the opportunity of conversation and seeing if there is anything you can do to help them further. You make a good impression and they have a story to tell their friends of a good deed that you did for them.
2. Ask for directions
Surprisingly I found out that asking for directions can really be effective in starting a conversation. Even if you already know where the place is you can then ask a question if they may know people that you can help. A good way to enter into the new conversation is ” thanks for your help, by the way I was just wondering if you happen to know anyone who might be tight on money and looking for some extra income?” this is a good way to not be too up front with them and makes a more relaxed conversation.
3. Make a compliment
one of the most used ways to break the ice is making a compliment about the person. Whether it be something about their personality or what they are wearing, you can always find something to compliment on. The one that works best for me is if someone has an outgoing personality, I let them know that I am looking for someone with that type of personality to help with my business.
No matter how many people you have in your warm market, it always needs to be improved by adding more people from your cold market into your network of prospects.
Recently I have learned that many people who are not involved in an MLM company, and some that are involved, have similar misconceptions based on not having the knowledge about the industry. This is a problem because most people who get involved end up getting their hopes up because they were unprepared for what they faced. Here are the five most common misconceptions about MLM companies.
1. You have to pay a lot of money to start.
Most people do not understand that you can start any MLM company for NO upfront investment. The problem is that most distributors are wanted to get paid as soon as possible so they try to push people into buying in. There are few like myself, who separate themselves from others buy focusing on preselling products as personal fundraisers to get recruits started at no cost.
2. You can make thousands of dollars for little to no work.
The MLM format is a structure for free enterprise buy letting anyone become their own boss and a fellow entrepreneur. The problem with this is that starting a business takes a lot of time and work to get started and almost every business does not make a profit their first few months. However, there are some who do have the experience and luck to become very successful very quickly in this industry.
3. You can only make money by selling to your friends and family.
The point of selling to your friends and family is just to help get you started in your business, however, your never going to make the amount you want without meeting new people. After you are done with your warm market you must learn to network and meet new people to share the opportunity that you offer.
4. You don’t have time to do this business.
People who currently have a full time job think that they never have enough time to start with a MLM company. You can actually start growing your business with only about one to two hours per day. The key is that it depends how you use those few hours to grow your business. These times should be spent meeting new people and sharing what you do or inviting them to an event. This is the stepping stone to starting your business until it grows enough to start paying more than your full time job.
5. It’s a pyramid scheme
This is the most important misconception because it is what ruined the industry by some terrible people to ruin the lives of those who bought in. In most cases there were no products used at all, the just simply paid money all the way to the top and the top elite left with all of the money. The companies who use this model are not scams but you need to do your research on the company to make sure that it will work for you. The key here as well is that you need to have an up-line who cares about your success and can help get you started with no risk so that you have a higher confidence of success.
So you just saw an opportunity to join a MLM company and they say that you can do this business with about an hour or two a day and make thousands of dollars. Does this vision seem very realistic to you? The truth is that you can’t just sit at home call a couple new people and expect to make the income you want. You are running your own business and you must put in the effort to earn the numbers that they sell you on. Once you have your business established with a strong team structure, then you can spend less time and have the business self sustain and grow.
There is a problem with distributors trying to recruit people into the business by saying that there is almost no work involved to make a ton of money. In Network Marketing you earn the amount you deserve for your efforts. If you truly want to make a serious income from the beginning you must put in the time and effort by putting in a decent six to eight hours of work meeting new people, making sales, and recruiting. Majority of people who start in a MLM company only spend about one to two hours a day focusing on their business with very little result, unless they are just wanting to make a small income on the side of their current job. If you put in a full days work on growing your business after a few weeks or month you will see you business sustain its growth with your network in place. Once it has began to sustain itself you can then enjoy the benefits of not working as many hours and eventually begin making more than your current job without doing any of the work.
The one thing that I have done and that goes overlooked most of the time is personal fundraising for your prospects. Did you know that you actually do not have to invest a single penny to get started in a MLM company? You can get started in any company by selling your products before you actually order them utilizing your own private fundraiser. Almost everyone is trained to have people buy in from the beginning but that is why people fail and consider it a scheme. If you offer them something that has no risk to lose any money then that is the optimum way to help others and grow your business.
In every prospect that seems to say no to your business the only reason they decline is because it costs money to start. However, if you give them an option to sell the product without purchasing any up front then they will have a more likely chance of getting involved. This gives more value to your business and you as a person in helping them with one of the best jobs in the world that pays them the amount that their effort deserves. However, this option is only feasible if you have a product that can be sold at retail price, if not you may want to have a look at your company for yourself. To get them started for a personal fundraiser all you have to do is follow a few simple steps.
- Have your prospect make a list of every person he/she has in her warm market.
- Your prospect will then call every person on that list to see if they would help them out buy buying some product.
- Offer the person’s clients the wholesale price if they like it and if they don’t you won’t bother them again. (no one likes being hounded for something they are not interested in.)
- Once enough product has been sold they can then collect the money from the customers and purchase their package to join the business.
- They deliver the product to the customers to see how they like it and follow up with their customers.
- They can can then call to thank them for the favor their customers did and offer to repay the offer buy showing them to make additional income for themselves.
It is a never ending cycle of helping others make a difference in their lives by having additional income outside of working a job. Once your prospect has finished his fundraiser he can then share with his/her prospects how to do a fundraiser as well. The next time someone says that you have to buy into one of this companies, you now have the knowledge to do a fundraiser instead. If they tell you that you have no other option than to purchase, then that is probably a company you do not want to be involved with.
